Fast and slow sequence

From this task I have learnt that fast music is more easier to edit because you can easily match to the music and for the slow music we had to put effects to match the music. One of the scene is where Hannah is on the lift, I had to make sure that I don't get my reflection in the mirror and also for the piano scene I learnt that next time we can make it more real by making the actor to press the keys. Further more I think the umbrella scene worked really well, partly because we used a prop. When we do our music video, we need to think about the props carefully because it will make adifference and make the music video look more visually attractive. Also make sure when we are filming shiny or tranparent materials we don't film ourselves and make the singer and the band to play and sing lively.

Fast slow premilary task

On the 16th of July me and Hannah had our first lesson off so we decided to get a head start. When we first listened to the songs with the fast one we had an idea of spinning and clowns, with the slow one we couldn't think of many ideas but we had ideas on how to edit the first one into a slow song. The whole point of this exercise was to experience different kinds of editing i.e the fast song will be quick where as the slow song wouldn't be.

In our media lesson Sung-min, Narmadha and Hannah went to continue filming and i stayed to continue our class editing of the she and him production. Once they returned we up loaded the footage. That lunch i returned to edit the fast sequence and nearly finished it and uploaded the songs to imovie. In my opinion imovie is a really good editing system and i have got used to it and find it really easy to use.

On the 19th we continued to edit the fast sequence and slow sequence but we didn't finish the slow one so today (20th) we completed both edits and converted the imovie file to quick time.
From this i have learnt:

  • Edit takes alot of time to get it perfect and exactly right.
  • Once finished if you change one tiny second in the clip it can change all the clip and make the clip out of sync.
  • When i have extra time come in to do some work because it makes the lessons easier and quicker when uploading or finishing off some edits.

She and Him MV

As a whole class we were given a task to copy a music video. Through out the project I helped as an assistant of the main people (i.e direcotor) and played the music for the actors. When filming I stood next to the camera and played the music from the speaker. The one very important thing was to make sure that the singer hears the music and knows her lyrics and make her feel comfortable when she is acting. This gave me the opportunity to learn in detail and know what we have to prepare and be ready when we are making our own music video. Also research in detail the camera shots and angles of the type or style of the music that we choose to make the music video for.

She and Him sequence

With out She and Him sequence i was involved in the background dancing and i did all the editing for the sequence. When learning the dances it was a long struggle to learn all of the dance and to get it perfect. One thing i learnt was that dances should copy the main person because if the main person messes up we all do and it doesn't look like we messed up. Also another thing was timing and free time. every chance i had i practised the dance and so did everyone else in the group. Because of this the dances were prefected and it all went smoothly. One major problem was timing and getting all the parts filmed and people turning up late. This caused alot of stress for the director of our group and everyone because it took so long to just get the beginning done and we had a whole day to do.

With editing the biggest problem was that some shots were missing, but because we were simply copying a pop video it was easy to time it right but some shots our main girl wasn't miming the lyrics and some she was so it was difficult to mix to slides together. Our teacher mentioned to us about another type of editing program, final cut. This would of come in handy with some shots because of mixing the two together was a nightmare. Once again it was a nightmare to sync the person miming to the actual music because in some parts she wasn't miming it right and it looked weird. Another problem was when i had synced one part another part of the song had become un synced and it was a pain to keep editing the same part over and over again.

One good point about the editing is i learnt alot about editing the sequence and i have learnt from my mistakes so when it comes to furture editing i will know what to change and how to tackle some problems for example the fast slow sequences.

My role for Our Group Music Video On "She and Him"

For the She and Him Group Music Video, I was one of the camera operators for the Libary Scene and I was the assistant for our director Marwa in the corridor scene as there had a lot of difficults doing this scene.
Intially, for the Library Scene Robyn was ment to film the Library scene. However, as she was one of the dancers she couldn't take on the role of filming this scene. So I took over the role of camera operator for one of the camera's. In this scene Library scene in the music video, two camera's were used in the original video. So Marwa was on one camera, while I was on the other. My job wasn't particular diffcult as I had to make sure it was in the right angle as the original music video. I didn't mind taking the job as being camera operator, I personally feel is one of my strongest areas.
Being Marwa's assisant for the corridor scene was a little more challenging as I need to have a bit more strenght doing this job. For this corridor scene,we had problems getting the postion we wanted it. As the camera wasn't tall enough to do the high angle shot, we had to put the tripod on the table. We were really worried about whether the tripod falling of the table so I my job was to support the tripod from falling. This meant I had to wait there in the same position for a long time.
From this experience of working on the She and Him, I learnt that Time Mangement is crucial when it comes to filming. It is important to know exactly what we were filming and also made sure we knew what our jobs are and not sort jobs out in the last minute. I have learnt alot from the experience and I hope I can aplly this to our own music video.
